Custom Vision and Cosmetic Centre: Cataract Surgery in a Skilled, Comfortable Environment
Dr. Navdeep Nijhawan is a highly skilled surgical Ophthalmologist and a specialist in cataract surgery. Custom Vision and Cosmetic Centre strives to provide the most caring and comfortable environment for our cataract surgery patients. It is within this relaxed clinical setting that patients are encouraged to ask questions and address concerns about the treatment and care they will receive.
The Surgical Procedure
Cataract surgery is one of the safest surgical procedures performed today. Surgeons have performed cataract surgery for over 35 years, but recent technological and surgical advances have made it a more gentle and reliable process than ever before. Cataract surgery can be completed on an outpatient basis.
Before cataract surgery at Custom Vision and Cosmetic Centre, the eye is anesthetized. The surgeon then makes a tiny incision at the edge of the cornea. The front portion of the lens is opened, and the cataract is removed. An intraocular lens (IOL) is inserted in place of the patient’s natural lens.
Every day, patients place their trust in us. It is an awesome responsibility - one that Dr. Nijhawan and Custom Vision and Cosmetic Centre take very seriously.
What Is a Cataract?
A cataract is a clouding of the normal clear, natural lens in your eye. Cataracts can develop slowly over a period of years but in some cases, they may develop quickly in only a few months. As the cloudiness increases, your vision becomes progressively worse. Cataracts may affect only one eye, or both eyes but at different rates.
What Causes Cataracts?
Cataracts are usually due to the aging process but may also be caused by heredity, eye trauma, diabetes, or even some medications.
If you have cataracts, you may experience:
- Blurred or fuzzy vision
- Sensitivity to light
- Halos around light
- Dull, faded colours
